Binche with three angles is a publication by Ulrike Voelcker that interprets antique pricking for our enjoyment. Her aim is to preserve antique lace and make it known so lacemakers can enjoy making lace in antique designs. She also reinterprets lace by combining different corner possibilities to create various pieces that can be worked on.
In Binche with three angles, we find two different models of rectangular handkerchiefs, table runner style, and five models of square handkerchiefs, some complete and others that require fabric in the centre.
Binche lace is a bobbin lace technique which comes from Belgian city of Binche and is known for its elegance and complexity. It began with this name in the 17th century and continued to evolve until the 19th century, when it suffered from competition with machine-made lace. There is currently a Binche lace school in the city of the same name.
Binche lace is characterised by its floral and geometric designs and its large number of bobbins. It is a lace for experienced lacemakers. In Binche with three angles, you will find something that will test your knowledge and give you great enjoyment.
